Preventing an 8% cost overrun during a chemical tanker dry-docking

We independently supervised the planned dry-docking of a 15-year-old chemical tanker on the owner's behalf, keeping both schedule and cost under control.

Challenge

A 15-year-old chemical tanker was taken into dry dock as planned. The maintenance process had to be monitored independently on the owner’s behalf, in terms of both work scope and cost control.

Solution

We supervised the process end to end with daily progress reports, verification of steel thickness measurements, coating application checks, class survey coordination, verification of the repair scope and a final acceptance inspection.

Result

The maintenance programme was completed within the planned time. A roughly 8% additional cost that could have arisen outside the agreed work scope was avoided.
